Wardrobe Essential The Everyday Bra
What's the difference between an everyday bra vs an evening bra
It is important to know what to look for in an everyday bra, because you wear them everyday! One of the most important things about an everyday bra is to find a something that’s comfortable, and that means it has to fit perfectly - definitely no wires or straps digging in uncomfortably. You can learn more about how to find the perfect fitting bra ‘here’ in one of our earlier Kayser blog posts.
The term ‘everyday bra’ varies between individuals but is generally a smooth cup, slighting contoured bra in white, black or nude. Start with these few features and build your collection from there. It is always a good idea to add a splash of colour or a bright pattern in between all those neutral bras for the days when you feel like something a bit more fun.
In terms of finding something that’s comfortable and supportive enough for everyday wear, there are a few simple things you should look for:
You should buy a bra with thick shoulder straps; these will provide you with extra up lift and support, particularly for bigger breasted women. This is also important for the back band of the bra. It needs to be thick for support but also needs to fit correctly.
You should always do your bras up on the last or middle hook, and make sure they’re snug but comfortable. If you’re wearing these bras everyday it’s likely that the back band will stretch through wash and wear. By buying a bra on the loosest hooks you have the ability to tighten the hooks as the band stretches and therefore get longer wear out of them.
Everyday bras shouldn’t be too padded, but buy what you feel the most comfortable in. If padded bras are your thing, or maybe sheer bras are, then that’s perfectly fine too as long as they fit properly, provide support and most of all, are comfortable.
So now you know what to look for, what’s the difference between everyday bras and special occasion bras?
Special occasion bras are the most fun to buy, but are not always practical. They come in lots of beautiful designs and patterns that will brighten up your wardrobe and make you feel special as soon as you put them on. They are usually made from much more luxurious fabrics, such as silk and satin, which are harder to care for. They always need to be carefully hand washed and are therefore are not ideal for everyday wear.
Special occasion bras usually have lots of embellishments, such as sequins, jewels and lace. These embellishments can become uncomfortable as they’re designed for looks not practicality. They also do not sit well under everyday clothing, particularly any tight fitting and smooth outfits as the embellishments attached to the bras often poke out.
